Happy Pride Month Folks!

This is (one of) my current read(s). What’s yours?

I know the TV Show is available to watch on Amazon Prime , but what to say? I’m an oldie but goodie book reader. OOO oo oo , I’m also Reading Gaiman’s Marvel 1602. Fascinating stuff!

P.S. Don’t ask me about the Red obsession today . It’s a story related to June the First Two thousand sixteen. Perhaps I’ll tell it someday.

Renee’s Triumph by Indrani Shah

REVIEW

Learning what  love is and how hard it is and the duty we have towards our family as a person.  The book takes us through Renee’s younger years. Her progressing as a young adult through various phases of her life and her ups and downs.

Love, as important as it was to her, she decided to marry another man and her life as a married woman began.

The ever curious, confident, bold Renee saw a whole different world while she adjusted to a new life.

The book shows life and struggles of a girl who was brought down by lack of love and support in her adult life and how she decided to find a new way for her and collided with a person who changed her life yet again.

Lonely, sad, happy, lovesick, longing for endearment, these feelings we feel have been portrayed well in the later part of the book.

Daughters of Char Chinar

Author: Almas Hussain
Cover Design: Jayashree
Published by Pirate Books

Before I start the review , you must know what is Jirga. Wikipedia defines Jirga as ” jirga (originally jərga or jərgah; Pashto: جرګه) is a traditional assembly of leaders that supposed to make decisions by consensus and according to the teachings of Pashtunwali. ” You can google about it if you want more info , I’m not pasting the whole thing here. Character Limitations , Duh!!

The book follows the stories of Nafisa and Meher , two beautiful twin sisters from Char Chinar in Srinagar , who have been disregarded and ill-treated by most of their family members , and especially their own father, Kazi , as the were his children from his forth wife (yes , SOME men can , till date have 4 wives , legally ) who died giving birth to her daughters. They live their lives , as happily as they can , given the circumstances, until , Kazi , kills a man. Kazi is taken to a Jirga , and it is decided that , ( do not worry , not a spoiler) for compensation he must give a virgin kin to the kin of the deceased , and the latter can do as per their wishes with the former.
The story advances in a non linear format , which can be interesting for many but frustrating for some.
Some of the characters were pure gems like Tuktuk , the cook , who took care of them as his own daughters till they were of an age where they could take care of themselves. In complete contrast , some characters are so bad , I wished for fated things to happen to them.
One thing i did not like was that on the first page itself , it is implied that Char Chinar (which is in Sri Nagar , Kashmir) is not a part of India , but that is perhaps just the authors politics , that the readers may or may not agree with.
Overall , i highly reccomend this book for its social message against Patriarch and several other things and also it keeps the reader hooked.

YOU BENEATH YOUR SKIN

YOU BENEATH YOUR SKIN
AUTHOR: @damyantig
GENRE: THRILLER
PUBLISHED BY :@SIMONANDSSCHUSTERIN

All the proceeds of the author for the book go to non-profits Chaanv Foundation @stopacidattacks and @projectwhydelhi.My Amazon affiliate earnings for the month of November will go to the same foundations.Link to purchase the book from my affiliate link in the bio.
The book revolves around Anjali , an Indian-American single mother , who has a son with autism . As Instagram captions haver character limitations , i will not go on about the story here and just continue with my review. You can read the blurb on the Amazon Listing. I will talk about the good and the underwhelming aspects of the book.
THE GOOD
-Author isn’t afraid to go for gray protaganists. In a genre where mostly the protagonists are white and the antagonists are black. This book has gray characters. At the same time the antagonists are not completely black but a very dark shade of gray. I apologise for the awful analogy.
-The concept. The concept is refreshing and something you may not have come across before. While movies have been made on the topic of acid attacks , they did not perform as well as they should have , and not just for political reasons. This book has been optioned by @endemolshineind for a televion series, and if made properly , the masses will love it.
-The way of putting here thoughts on various subjects in the book. The author does not force her opinion on her thought s, she rather puts it out there and the readers have to think and form thier own opinions. Just like every artist should.
-The thrill. I cannot believe that this is the authors debut novel. Every page keeps you hooked to the story. I mean i did figure out some of the several twists and turns but thats because i have read several thrillers .
THE UNDERWHELMING ASPECTS
-There are two many characters and the perspective changes way to often and that is not a problem for advance readers but beginners may have difficulty reading it.
-I am nitpicking here and this point is completely based on personal opinion hence will not be considered in my rating system, The author has tried to justify infedelity at some level and me , haveing been cheated on , just cannot be an advocate of that.
Overall the book is an excellent read and i highly recommend it.

The Apple By Devashish Sardana

The Apple
Author : Devashish Sardana
Genre: Fantasy Thriller
The Protagonist along with his companion/lover , Michelle , are on a quest to find the Garden of Eden to get the apple of immorality.
The Senitels are the group of people who are born to protect the Garden of Eden.
The Story in the beginning gets very confusing as the story flips through the Protagonists dream and reality and it is hard to keep track.
The Quest leads to a clash between the Senitels and the humans . What will happen ?
The ending suggested that thier might be a sequel and I hope so.

Abyss by Sabarna Roy

Abyss
Author : Sabarna Roy
Genre : Murder-Mystery Play

Short Review: The book was engaging. Period. I finished it in one sitting.

Long Review :
It is a two act play. The first act begins with Mriganka and Oindrilla waiting for the latter’s mother , they are a couple and Oindrilla wants to seek her blessings. The play picks up pace very fast and due to that it makes a very interesting read. Debashree , Oundrilla’s mother is a very powerful , influencial women who is of an owner of chemical company. She fears that some of her relatives and a loyal employee are planning against Oindrilla , who is to take over the company after Debashree. The story takes place and by the end of the first act , someone is murdered. and a private detective Renuka , investigates the murder in the second act.

Some of the revelations made in the second act may feel squimish , so if you get disgusted easy , here’s a warning.
